Neck Pain Treatments

When you are suffering from neck pain, it can be the result of many causes. If you sleep in an awkward position, work in a position that is not ergonomic, or have been in an accident, these can all make your neck hurt. Dr. Matt Atkinson, of Atkinson Family Spine Care in Greenwood, SC, will get to the root cause of your pain and recommend the chiropractic therapies that are right for you.

When your neck is painful, it can be the result of a misalignment in the neck’s vertebrae. A chiropractic adjustment can be just what you need. Getting the vertebrae back into alignment allows the healing messages to flow freely and takes the pressure off of the nerves. Your chiropractor has a variety of adjusting techniques to choose from and will use the one best suited to your neck.

Massage can be very effective in dealing with neck pain. Chiropractic adjustment and massage therapy work very well together to provide a quicker recovery time. The soft tissues in the neck can be involved in the pain and getting them to relax or work out the painful tense knots makes a difference to the comfort level of the patient. Massage therapy provides a feel-good effect as well.

Therapeutic ultrasound

Therapeutic ultrasound uses sound waves to treat pain in the soft tissues and the joints. It slightly heats and vibrates the tissues to reduce inflammation and stimulate the regeneration of the cells. It can be very effective at reducing the pain level even from the first treatment.

Therapeutic exercise

Therapeutic exercise is specifically targeted exercise to help to maintain mobility, flexibility, and the results of chiropractic adjustment. To keep the spine in alignment, the muscles, ligaments, and tendons need to be strong to support the vertebrae. You will be shown how to perform the exercises and will be able to continue with your recovery while you are home between visits.
